Collegium recommends Justice SA Dharmadhikari as Madras HC Chief Justice; Transfer of Justice Lisa Gill to Andhra Pradesh HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari for appointment as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court vide official statement dated 26th February, 2026. Justice Sushrut is currently serving as a Judge of the Kerala High Court, whose Parent High Court is Madhya Pradesh. The appointment is recommended to take effect upon retirement of the serving Chief Justice of Madras High Court on 5th March, 2026.  

The Collegium has also recommended the transfer of Justice Lisa Gill of Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. She is recommended to serve as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court as and when the serving High Court Chief Justice retires.  

The decision for transfer of Justice Lisa Gill follows the newly introduced policy by the Supreme Court which prefers transfer of proposed Chief Justices well in advance.
