Justice Lisa Gill becomes first woman Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh HC

The President of India has appointed Justice Lisa Gill as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice Lisa Gill will assume office with effect from 25th April, 2026, following the retirement of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on 24th April, 2026.
The appointment has been made in exercise of constitutional powers and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended transfer of Justice Lisa Gill to Andhra Pradesh on 26th February, 2026, cleared on 6th March, 2026. The same recommendation sought transfer of Justice Lisa Gill as a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to be later appointed as the Chief Justice as a policy improvement.

About Justice Lisa Gill
Born on 17th November, 1966, Justice Gill was enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 and practiced at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. During her legal career, she handled a wide range of matters, including criminal, civil, service, revenue, and constitutional cases. She also represented the Union Territory of Chandigarh, along with various boards and corporations. She was elevated to the Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 31st March, 2014.
